I have the "Are You Surprised?" virus for word that engages through the macros. Most indicate this is specific to word and not the OS.

You should be running antivirus and firewall from a reliable vendor like cmafee and ensure it is properly configured to scan for things like PuPs (potentially unwanted programs) and automatically updated.

Windows update needs to be run to ensure security patches to the operating system.

And if you don't have antispyware/antiadware included with your a/v then I suggest Spybot S%26D

Those things with common sense and some security awareness will protect you from most things.

Malware is not a virus alone. Antivirus will not protect ports.
