Please please please help me im desperate, theres something wrong with my laptop and i really need to sort it!hijackthis

Don't panic- calm down. This sort of thing happens with older laptops. It may be a LCD problem, a fried chip from a power surge or a loose hinge on the display. Don't repeatedly press the power button- that is bad for the laptop. You could potentially stuff up the motherboard or hard drive and once that is done there's no fixing it.

Find a desktop PC, (or this one you are working on right now) and unplug the monitor from the main unit and plug it into your laptop. there are two cables from the monitor- one is a VGA port with multiple pins on the end- goes into the laptop. The other is your standard power cable.

Do you think HP Suck? I do!?

I got a new compaq(hp) laptop(windows vista) and It SUCKED so bad it would let me put my new virus protection,My Internet,my music. It would not let me do anything!

I took it back and got a Acer PC(windows vista) and everything is working fine!!

have you had a problem with compaq laptops?

Do you think HP Suck? I do!?house call

Sounds like everything you described were software issues and had nothing to do with the laptop hardware. Sounds like the laptop just wasn't configured correctly. Personallly I dislike Compaq/HP, but thats for entirely different reasons than you mentioned.

I strongly dislike (hate) PC (well not hate really, just dont really like) companies. Mac is the best way to go, whether your the power user or the home user. there is less confiusion and everything is intuitive and cool! http://www.apple.com/
Well after having widows i have gone strictly mac with everything

My virus scan says it found unquarantined viruses, worms, and trojans; What do I do???

My McAfee Virusscan has found a number of viruses, worms, and trojans that it can't quarantine or "clean". It's a new computer that has all kinds of firewalls and protections up (all continually updated) so how can I fix this mess? I tried the McAfee help sections and CNET and got no help that I can understand. Any ideas (outside of throwing my puter from a tall building) would be much appreciated.

My virus scan says it found unquarantined viruses, worms, and trojans; What do I do???hp

Hello!

I understand your concern and your problem. I am a computer technician so I deal with these problems all the time.

Chances are, McAfee can't remove the viruses for two reasons. First, the viruses may be currently running in memory. It cannot delete files that are running in memory. Second, McAfee is probably the worst antivirus protection you can buy. Sorry to tell you that, but it's true. I recommend Symantec (http://www.symentec.com/) or NOD32 (http://nod32.com and this is the best in the industry).

One method of removing the viruses is to start the computer in SAFE Mode. To do this, restart the computer. As soon as the computer starts to boot (i.e. you see a logo screen) press the F8 key repeatedly. Then run your virus scan and see what happens. In SAFE mode, not everything loads, so you should be able to delete some (if not all) of the viruses.

Let me know if that works or if you need more help. You can e-mail me at b_savage@pacific.edu if you have any questions or would like further assistance.

PC Security (Password Protection)?

I have a question. Thanks in advance for your help!

For a hacker to get someone's password, does the computer user have to first either get a virus and/or let a hacker get past the firewall, and after all that, does the hacker then have to figure out the password?

I'm just trying to figure out if a hacker can take control over passwords by simply figuring them out, or does the computer user first have to get a virus and/or let someone get past the firewall.

If someone gets a virus and someone gets past the firewall, does that pretty much means your passwords are going to be affected/compromised, or do they have to get past the final step of cracking your password?

PC Security (Password Protection)?internet security software

It is not necessary that you first get a virus, if a hacker can get past the hardware firewall, which is not impossible, they can then launch any number of attacks against all ports on your system using standard password dictionaries. Even if you have a software firewall, you may still have opened ports for some reason or other that may be vulnerable to attack.

PC Security (Password Protection)?moto guzzi

I could send you a picture via email, it will have a small app enclosed ( Embedded ) you would never know it, and neither would your firewall or AntiVirus Program. So NO all of your description is irrelevant to me or a Hacker, which I am not by the way.... and my little app could email me with all your personal info, password, credit card numbers, etc.. It would email me while you are emailing someone else. SPOOKY Huh?
Trojan Horse. When you get a trojan horse, some collect all inputted data then it will be saved in a file, then sent to the creator. He will then have all your passwords. I had the horse and I looked it up. Also the horse, slows down internet. I am monitoring my dads computer from my computer because he has all his banks, ebay, paypal etc passwords on the computer. And my 2 sisters download music form Limewire which a Horse can be sent threw. So yea.

Computer Protection/Antiviruses?

Can anyone help or make reccommend suggestions about anti-virus software or spyware, etc. (I know very little about technology!) I know I had the AVG free trial but it expired. I don't necessarily mind paying for a service, as long as it is reputable.

I currently have some kind of bug, trojan, or virus (just throwing words out there!) that prohibits me from using search engines online. Whenever I click on a link that comes up as a result, I am automatically transferred to another "phishy" looking search site or ebay site.

Can anyone offer advice, tips, or empathy? I would appreciate it! Being a college student, it's frustrating not to be able to use search engines (like when I have a 20 page paper due Monday!) ;)

Thanks all!

I have active virus shield. It's free and works well. You can download it on line.

Computer Protection/Antiviruses?network security

i think u should try Kaspersky anti-virus its like the first or the second best anti-virus program.

but u know what.. the best way to get rid of viruses is to format your hard drive. then install the windows and all the stuff again and an anti-virus software to prevent from getting viruses in the future. coz what i know that when u get a virus and it messes up your computer, some of it stays there, or it goes away with an anti-virus but its effect stays. with formatting u get a clean new computer.
I use NOD32 as antivirus, AVG Antispyware and ZoneAlarm as firewall. I fully recommend them all, but there must be other good programs.

Hey protection help please?

i got verizon internet security suite which i pay 5 bux for it a month and has anti virus , spyware firewall and pop blocker. i also got registry mechanic pro verizon and spyware doctor.I recently deleted spyware doctor because it slowed my computer and people said it dont remove anything that finds while scaning. was it a good idea to delete it?oh yeha na dit was spyware doctor with anti-virus and it was the paid version.

Hey protection help please?internet

Spyware doctor is the best protector against spyware and other intruder. It is not a good idea to delete it, but there are good internet protection software that is free. It is the best free software. so you can try it. it's called spyware terminator.

How does Verizon Yahoo Online Protection compare with other antivirus protection software?

This is what I have installed right now and it keeps finding infected files and deleting them, but I wonder if another program would find the heart of the problem so these files would stop getting infected in the first place. It's removing the infected files, but doesn't seem to be removing the virus. It's called Win32/Relfeer.B The problem is that I've switched antivirus programs before and it's just such a big headache with programs not being able to work together and causing conflicts... Does this program not remove viruses? Is it limited in that respect that it will only detect and remove the infected files? What should I do...

How does Verizon Yahoo Online Protection compare with other antivirus protection software?ktm

Scan again and try and remove in safe mode.

In general, Windows does not allow the deletion of files when they are in use. However, Safe Mode will only load a minimum amount of drivers and services to run Windows, making removal a better bet. Scan again and attempt to delete while your computer is in safe mode.

To access Safe Mode, reboot then repeatedly press the F8 key at the first screen. When finished removing that pest, reboot again to return to normal mode.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Help.?

With that software, what happens if the virus gets transferred into the quarantine file? Does it automatically delete the virus or spyware itself, or am I suppose to delete them myself?

Thanks for answering.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Help.?live update

You can get rid of it yourself. It places it in there so you can make the decision. From the quarantine there are help links to answer questions. Open Norton Security and in the left column go to view history. Where it says recent history use the arrow and select quarantine. In the upper right select Help and then scroll down to managing quarantine. After reading that, on the bottom select Removing an item from quarantine. Now you are all read up on it and you can contact them for further questions.

How do you turn off the write protection in windows XP Home?

I can see why some people didn't like windows XP home, the whole "documents and settings" directory is write protected.

Recently, a virus got past my firewall and manifested itself in the (my account name)\local settings directory. My anti-virus program finds the virus every time I connect to the net but can't delete or quarantine it because the directory is write protected.

I have tried starting in safe mode and setting all the permissions for "all users" to checked, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

When the folder's properties are open the read-only box is filled with a translucent square instead of a check mark.

My anti virus program is McAfee.

Could someone help me out?

How do you turn off the write protection in windows XP Home?liveupdate

I don't think the dirctory is write-protected. The file is currently in use. Run the computer in safemode. Backup the registry and then search it for any keys with the name of the file that McAffee Identified. Delete these keys. What is the name of the file? That information could help me alot in answering this question. It could be the virus that is making the whole directory write protected. Try deleting the file in safemode. If it won't let you make sure it is not running.

change anti virus... and make sure you tried already system restore.
Try changing the permissions this way:

Important: If you are not joined to a domain and you want to view the Security tab: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

3. Click the View tab, and then click to clear the Use simple file sharing [Recommended] check box in the Advanced settings box.

I need protection for my computer?

i just reinstalled my operating system on my computer and i need to protect it so i don't get viruses, hacked or any thing else like i did before. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks : ) here is a list of some things i am looking for, other things would be fine too.

鈥?MS removal tool

I need protection for my computer?malware

For a firewall look at Comodo or Zone Alarm. Both are free and better than Windows firewall. One other option is to place a router between your internet connection and your computer. Even if you do not have a home network, the router offers a hardware firewall.

Spam filter can be turned on with your email provider or on your client. Both Outlook and Thunderbird have provisions for this.

As for Anti-Spyware, AVG has a free version. There is also Spybot and Windows defender. Windows defender is actually a pretty decent program on a clean system. that is the catch.

I like AVG Free for anti-virus needs. There are others like Avast.

MS has a malicious software removal tool. Search the MS site for it though chances are that if you have automatic updates on you already have it.

If you feel the need to pay for a suite than stay away form Norton. First off, once you install it, you will eed to purchase a subscription to get updates after the initial period. Norton also has a tendency to bog down system resources. So if you are running on the min for your OS, don't get it. Norton is also targeted by malicious users since it is so popular. Many Trojans and viruses today seek ways to disable your protection.

AVG AV is a very poor AV its detection rate is only 82% - with this poor detection rate I just would not use AVG - Avast %26 Avira are both free %26 have a far better detection rate.

Don't run two AV's it will lock up your PC, you can do a free online scan to see if AVG is missing Viruses - try bitdefender free online scan or trend housecall.

- F-Secure

- Ad-Aware SE Personal

- Spybot Search %26 Destroy

- SpywareDoctor

- RegistryMechanic

- SpywareBlaster

- Microsoft Anti-Spyware

All of these softwares will make your whole PC run faster. They will remove all of the viruses, trojans, bad cookies and also the spywares inside your machine, that are just eating your PC's CPU, speed, memory. etc.

That will help you a lot. by making your machine faster, more secure and reliable.

Dude, you have a MACbook, not a windows computer!! Macbooks come with a firewall, so all you have to do is turn it on. Check out Apple's support pages for more info. Also, there is a free firewall at www.clamxav.com which is for mac's.

Hello. You can turn your firewall that is already embeded inside your Mac on by going to System Preferences and then go to the Sharing area and turn the firewall on. And also for spyware, you can get MacScan and also ClamXav for viruses, although I doubt there are any. I also have a Mac too. Congrats for getting one. :)

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser.

you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus. i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar.

firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser.

On the majorgeeks site you can download a program called Rogue Remover. You can find it under the antispyware category. Thats the program you need to remove the rogue applications that are infecting your computer with malware ads.

Firewall is most important. Zone Alarm free version does the job. I think Windows firewall only guards against stuff coming in, not stuff being sent from your pc, so get Zone Alarm. I'd get one more anti-spyware as well, say AVG or superantispyware.

Cpmputer protection good enough?noton

well heres one thing noriton doesnt want you to know. if you get a pop up from it saying something is trying to access a server or something else. block it. it has massive spyware problems and could get your information. to be extra safe turn on your firewall.
If you are using the Anti-virus with NIS2007 alongside Avast, that could cause a lot of problems. See below with a reference link to Norton.

Only use one anti-virus product. Running more than one can cause conflicts thus rendering each ineffective. Same goes for firewalls

Rather do the update ... having a message saying your database is out of date is not a good thing if you consider the number of viruses released each day.

If AVG says its database is out of date that means that the geeks behind Grisoft has found a new 'strain' of virus floating around and want to update AVG just in case it doesn't catch it normally. Its not a big problem, but if the download is free, then there really isn't anything to lose.

Spybot - Search %26 Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S%26D is free.

You can download free antivirus, like Avast. If you have Windows, it comes with firewall protection of some kind. Check the control panel and "security" settings, maybe the switch is turned off.
A lot of them, AVG, Macffee, a lot.

Just google it you will find a lot!

Best Free Anti-Virus Software Updated November 28, 2007

If you are looking for the best possible protection my top recommendation is Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic [1]. Although its detection rate is outstanding there are some reservations. First it lacks email scanning; this is only available in the paid version. That means that AntiVir won't warn you about any infected emails before you open them. However should you open an infected email then AntiVir will still spring into action, so not having an email scanner doesn't mean you are not protected from email based infections. My second reservation is that AntiVir is quite an intrusive product - you will certainly be well aware of its presence. Finally AntiVir Personal Edition Classic has a time limited license. It is renewable but be aware you will have to periodically go through the hoops.

Hmmmm, seems everyone has alot for you to check out already so I'll leave it at that...But, with the pc being a work one, wouldn't it be your jobs problem to have all of the firewalls and virus scanners that your comp needs...Not yours???? Just a thought that's all.

i used Symantec Norton Anti-Virus for a while, but updating went wrong and it totally blocked me from internet access.

but by God man, learn to spell.
I'm saying Anti virus?

My Norton Internet Worm Protection has detected and blocked an intrusion attempt?

It says it had blocked an intrusion attempt... But I think I might have a virus? It's doing this repeatedly.

I ran the scans but it only found one adware and it removed it...

But it's still doing this and I'm getting popups everytime I visit a site!

I have my pop up blocker on...?

It says that the attacked IP is "tracking.droppedurl.com" and then a slew of numbers...

There's also another one "top-banners.com" and more numbers...

Is there anyway I can block these?

when it pops up to tell you click on it and there is a box to tick thats says something like

Your Norton is already blocking them, that is why it is notifing you. It is just doing its job and doing it well!

What you want to do is configure your Norton to NOT alert you on an intrusion.

Good luck.

Is windows defender sufficient protection for my new laptop?

... or do I need anti-virus as well? I won't go on the internet until I know my laptop is secure.. thanks

Is windows defender sufficient protection for my new laptop?agv

NO!!!

You need a good anti-virus (not Norton or McAfee) program and prefferably anti-spyware and adware programs.

AVG free edition and ad-aware is a good combo.

Is windows defender sufficient protection for my new laptop?antivirus software

No! Get Norton Internet Security 2008 or a program like this. Plus i recommend CCleaner and Windows Care V2 Personal.
I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
Yes, Winodws Defender should be adequate protection, if it has the following:

-Ad-Adware SE

-Avast Anti Virus

is that good enough? need a fire wall anything? please tell me where to get it and stuff If I DO need it.

Norton Internet Security already has the antivirus scanner--you should uninstall Avast since it may came into conflict with Norton. You can also add A-Squared Free, SpywareBlaster and SuperAntiSpyware to your list. Norton also already has the software firewall, so you're OK there. If you also connect to the internet through a Router, you also already has a hardware firewall too. You're OK on security although if you can i would ditch Norton Security and use ZoneAlarm Security Suite instead, it's a much much better security suite. The suite has the top notch ZoneAlarm Pro firewall, Kaspersky antivirus along with ZoneLabs antispyware.

Norton Internet security gives you the full protection. No need to install those other craps.
looks like you have pretty well got things covered. If you are running windows you already have a firewall, just be sure it is turned on. you can check by going to control panel click on security and wala it will show you if firewall is on or off.hope this helps you

Memory Very Low! Disk Clean Up Every 5 Minutes!?

I have an acer 3100 laptop. for the past couple of months ive been getting a message saying that i have very low memory. not virtual memory. just disk space memory. at first it was every other week, then it was every other day now its every 5 to 10 minutes probably. and it gets very annoying. i have done disk clean up everytime it says it ive done disk defragments evry other week. i have deleted un-used programs. maybe all of my programs use up very little memory and i also have a viruses protection system that does take much space up but i have no viruses. so whats the problem? who ever can help i will appreciate it a ton!

THANK YOU

Memory Very Low! Disk Clean Up Every 5 Minutes!?antispyware

You can prevent XP from warning you that the computer is low on disk space by editing the registry.

Open the Registry Editor.

Expand the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \Explorer.

Double click the NoLowDiskSpaceChecks value. If the value is not present, you will have to create a new DWORD value.

Type in a value of 1.

Close the Registry Editor.

Memory Very Low! Disk Clean Up Every 5 Minutes!?best antivirus software

Okay, then you've been infested with mal-ware or spy ware. Look up other answers and find one that identifies free spyware software and use that to scan and clean your computer.
your hard drive is low on free space. all you need to do is go to the control panel and then add or remove programs. then remove anything you don't need. you can check how much room is on you hard drive by right clicking on start, selecting explore, then when the page opens, right click on c: or your primary (first) hard drive under my computer and selecting properties. if all else ails, transfer all files to a external disk, then get a larger hard drive from bestbuy or officemax or staples and reinstall an operating system (bestbuys geek squad can help) and then putting the backed up files onto the new drive. if all else fails, buy a new computer and get new stuff
defrag
I have a HP Pavilions dv6000 with Windows Vista, and mine is doing the same thing. Wonder if it's a virus? I'll try to defrag, but I did do that before and it's still doing it. I'll try again. Hope we can get an answer.
First off, you might have too many things starting up and staying resident when you start your computer. Of course, there are other things that could be causing this, including a corrupt registry, or fragmented disk. A good program I use is available for a 30 day free trial. You might want to check it out. Here's the link for download (it's completely spyware free).

Virus!!!??

i have mcafee security center on my computer, its meant to be antivirus, antispy, firewall, internet security and all that stuff. I know they say if you put more than one antivirus or ntispy or whatever it will slow it down but, will my computer slow down if i put another antivirus or antispy on it because i have the all in one protection?

Virus!!!??antivirus download

Thats a very good question . I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

i would not recomend using Mcafee i just didnt find it to helpful i got a Trojan virus and many others and what i did was downloaded AVG antivrus software just google it and it scanned my computer killed the virus and i was back to normal if you dont like downloading stuff you can always buy Norton antivirus 2007 i tink is the newest its like 50$
yu instal 3 or 4 antivirous software plz instal the only one PANDA ANTIVIROUS that will block all the virouses etc.because i am useing it and i am satisfy of its result.
No it wont as it is Mcafee, Mcafee is the best to use for security purposes, antivirus, antispy, firewall, internet security and protects from viruses!!

Mcafee bonds together as one thing!!
WELL IN ORDER TO INSTALL ANOTHER ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE ..YOU MUST UNISTALL THE ONE YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW. SO I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT....STAY WITH MCAFFE...TRY UPGRADING IT TO GET EVEN MORE SUPPORT.
Personally I hate Mcafee as I find it very annoying to use, slows down my computer, and I don't think it actually works all that well. I would just get rid of it and try something else. You usually can't run 2 anti virus programs at the same time, as they will conflict with each other. This will cause them both to not work and will usually crash your computer.

I've put together a report on what I think are the best internet security programs out there. I've tested pretty much all of them, and some are great while others are pure trash. If you're interested you can read my full report here for free:

I'm not sure but as a recommendation avast antivirus is great

As an independent IT Technician I am constantly asked about Anti-virus software and which one's the best. My answer is always the same: none of them so go with any that's free. No one in the industry can give you any supported data as to who is the best. They all claim to be but cannot support the argument with clear evidence to back up their claim. Probably because they'd get sued and people tend to believe what they want to believe. Norton and Mcafee are the big boys but isn't that because they are in with the big suppliers to get their product pre-installed on these pc's.

Remember you heard it here first. Now I'll probably get sued.

AVG is better. You might also want to download the AVG spyware program, available on their website, and Adaware, available free from Lavasoft.

Help! I had sex with someone with herpes and he used protection and i looked up stuff but have a que

My "friend" and I are close and I love with so much and he took me to his place and did say he had herpes. We put on a condom and we made love. The question I had was if I do have the virus or not- I called my gyn and she said it can take about 6 weeks to know. I want to know that if I do have the virus can it lay dormant for years or does it surface in the 6 weeks my gyn said and is there any tests to determine if i have it without having a breakout? I'd love to spend my life with this man but not sure if he wants to with me. Also if I touch his penis but do not have cuts and he discharges even after a outbreak- if i wash my hands immediately afterwards with an antivirus liquid soap can that reduce me getting the virus?

Help! I had sex with someone with herpes and he used protection and i looked up stuff but have a question?antivirus programs

First of all condoms don't offer effective protection against viral infections (genital herpes, HPV, molluscum etc). If he has an outbreak he should definitely not have any type of intercourse as genital herpes is an extremely contagious disease. There's also a chance of passing the STI even if there are no signs of an outbreak. If I were you, I'd take no chances unless I'd see a serious/committed relation.

I had a discussion with a friend of mine which is a doctor and in the practice she said she had a patient that had a very weak immune system because of cancer treatment. His wife had genital herpes which would have been a disaster to catch. They kept it under control with daily valtrex or other type of medication. If you really love this guy go for it, but at least go to a doctor to minimize the chances of getting it yourself.

Avast, Avg, and clamwin are most known. Don't forget spyware protection though. Very important these days. Best freeware program for that is Spybot Search and Destroy. Microsoft also offers a free anti spyware program called Windows Defender.

Is there any kind of protection for your computer that can be gotten that does not cost to install?computer repair

i don't really trust in free antiviruses cos i use paid one (nod32), but you can get free anti-spyware at http://www.2-spyware.com/review-spybot-s...
They're many free Aunti Virus protections, but those are not protective compared to the costly ones. You will still get viruses and spyware with these free programs. Some people say Free Anti Virus protections are as great as the costly ones, which is totally wrong. McAfee has found more than 90 viruses on my computer when I used to use the free ones, which never detected the viruses.

I would say pay for McAfee. Norton is terrible in my opinion.

Is the Anti-Vermins spyware protection program safe/reliable?

Well on my task bar (near the clock) I keep getting this system alert and it's instructing me to download this Anti-Vermins program, is this a virus (trying to make me download something dangerous to my computer) or is it something I should do?

Is the Anti-Vermins spyware protection program safe/reliable?antivirus scan

Do not download it, its bogus. You PC is infected with adware.Use these scans to remove it, both are free and safe to use.

Spybot-S%26D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Trojin virus?

i have a trojin.wsk.wordsky or some **** like that...with mcaffe protection.. how do i get rid of this stuff..

Trojin virus?antivirus software

One of the first things to do when you suspect malware is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.

So, to disable it, RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, check 'Turn off system restore' IF not already checked.

The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC.

The current best online scanners I prefer are from Kaspersky antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus. Together, these 2 scanners will find ALL the bad stuff on your PC because they have the BEST detection rate.

First, use Kaspersky's. (FYI: ALL these scans require you to agree to a EULA and install an activex control which is needed to perform the scan, so agree to them all.)

*NOTE: Some scanners ONLY work with IE or may not fully remove malware

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner (KAV)

Then scan with:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

There are MANY other good online scanners which you may choose to also use (which will take longer but ensure safety):

While it's great that those sites make a really great effort to stop any malware from getting to your computer, I believe it's best to implement antivirus protection at the PC also. It certainly can't hurt.

I recommend AVG Antivirus (Free version). I believe AVG provides a spyware software for free also. Check it out at http://www.grisoft.com

Spy Sweeper is a really good spyware software but it costs $30 the first year and $20 each year thereafter.

In your opinon, or of many others. What are the best anti mal ware to buy? Is it better to buy a certain security suite, or a separate Anti Virus and Anti Spyware? If so, which ones? Also, my last question is about a Trojan Horse, if you have any knowledge on that besides Re installing my OS, please answer it.

What is the best overall protection out there?auto protect

I swear by AVG products, free downloads available at their website.

AVG virus removal tools %26 instructions:

I went to open a post on craigslist.org one time %26 I immediately got a flag that said there was a trojan in the post %26 refused to open it! whew lol

I have bought all sorts of programs over the years but I have to say the free AVG %26#123;along with Spybot %26 Adaware%26#125; are the best and easiest to use.

If you don't do the updates on these programs than there is no use having them at all.

Unfortunately many people don't understand the purpose of the updates so skip this step to their detrement!

Think of the programs as a dictionary and the updates add new words to the dictionary daily; what good would a dictionary be if the words you are looking for are not in it?

On the preventive side, one of the best sites to test your system and get advice is Gibson Research, everyone should run a Shields Up! on their system to find out if their computer is inviting attacks by hackers by answering "ping requests" thereby providing hackers with a gps map to your system!

To answer honestly, I am a PC Repair, network admin and have considerable knowledge on programming and accessing computers remotely etc.

Avast is what I use however on a scale on one to ten we are looking at perhaps a 5 or 6. The best I've ever used is Kaspersky... http://www.kaspersky.com/

is the web site.

They're located in Moscow Russia and have one of the most elite programs I've ever used.

Windows "Defender" is simply a free anti-spyware program from Microsoft, I'd don't endorse it, I've never used it but I work on infected machines a lot and find it 3-4 on a scale 1-10.

SuperAnti-Spyware, never heard of it and the site looks cheesy, I'd be careful if they try to get you to buy something if its "free"
