Blank Laptop Screen?

I have a Dell Laptop. A while back, my virus protection expired. I would use my laptop and then 10 minutes into using it, it would freeze and then pop ups would come and start saving things. I had to shut down my laptop. I left it alone for a few weeks and then I went to use it again. I turned it on and it showed that Dell is loading. Then it would go to a black screen, but show it is still on. What should I do?

Ok you didn't say what type of Dell laptop or how old it was

I know most computer techs charge a flat rate to wipe (remove all data) and restore (reinstall windows) on it. Probably between $60-100 depending on your location.

Try geek squad (not sure what they would charge)

You best bet is to clean off the hard drive (fdisk wont do the trick if there is a virus)... try www.whitecanyon.com for Wipe Drive Pro and then find a restore disk for your Dell (I see them from time to time on ebay for sale, I am not sure if dell sells them or not).

Good luck.

Sounds like it has a mjor infection. The cheap way would be just for you to reinstall windows. Otherwise if you don't want to do that, take it to a computer place and let them see if they can get rid of the infection.

In the future never your virus protection expire. If you don't like paying for one, then use on of the free ones like AVG. That's what I have been using for a while now, haven't had any problems with infection.
