CNET Has some articles which can help you learn about wi-fi and security:

The bottom line answer is....it depends :-)
If your wireless router has some of the built in security features mentioned in CNETs articles, it may not be so easy... If you have a basic wireless router and dont' have any of the security firewalls or other stuff, it's just like having both hooked to a hub, so a hacker or worm or virus would potentially be able to infect both.
However.. If your laptop, for example, had security software on it that prevents that attack, but your desktop didn't...then the infection on your desktop wouldn't be so much of a concern.
As you may guess, the answer is relatively simple....find the current best spyware, virus, hacker, etc. protection you can afford and use it.

If you inter connect the two computers and access the files in one computer from the other, there is a good scop for viruses entering the other computer. Better to be on safeside. You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

Yes. They are both equally safe (or unsafe) since they have the same protection software. Wired/wireless doesn't matter.
